Dylan Vs. Cash & a Cactus Jack

I took Kevin to a concert at the Guesthouse International Ballroom last nght where a bunch of bands got together and played Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash songs. The musicians seemed to want to play more Dylan, but the audience (kevin and me included) obviously wanted more Johnny Cash--anytime a Cash song was played everyone went nuts.
There was an anouncer trying to do some old-school boxing anouncing--not very well, but it was still fun to watch him anounce the 'bout' between Dylan and Cash. Peat Moss, a dude who normally plays in Big Business, kicked things off in overalls and a train engineer's hat. He was great on guitar, and even played a few of his own songs while up there.

Next up was the Hasty Ladies, a trio of girls, two of whom normally play guitar. One of the guitars kept feeding back (thanks, pro sound guy), so they knocked it down to one. To be honest, the chick playing the guitar was a much better and less-generic singer than the other two.

By this time, Kevin and I were starting to get into it. Despite being pissed about the pro-dylan-izing, the musicians were good.
After the Hasty Ladies came the Noblemen. I don't know what brand guitar the guy was playing, but I loved it! They were awesome (even when playing Dylan), and they played Cocaine Blues, which blew us away. Unfortunately, their set was just the two songs.
The Dewaine Wakeman Duo came on next, consisting of a banjo-picker and a guitarist. They sounded okay, and when the picker switched to a guitar, we were treated to a rendition of Tenessee Flattop Box. By this point, Kevin and I started getting tired. Blame it on the booze, blame on our age, we blame it on the saturation of 7-10-minute Dylan songs.
The House Guitars were the last band we saw last night (sorry other performers!) They sounded great, and just when I least expected it, they banged out Thirteen, one of my all-time favorite Cash songs, with 2 guitars & a harmonica.
We ditched off a little early, and I came home to an extremely cold bed and a sleeping girlfriend who was less than willing to share her warm covers!
One last thing: I've been taking a bit of a break from the comic stuff, but I've still been doodling around a bit--I just finished a short comic called "Cactus Jack"--it got a laugh out of Karissa, so fucking read it, why don't ya?
