Some Good Times Coming My Way
It's been a helluva summer. We had a benefit for Jas and Jimmy back in July, it was an incredible experience. Both were at Thirsty's having a great time and in such high spirits. It felt (and still feels) so good to see a couple of tough bastards being able to enjoy life despite the tragedy they'd gone through.
On that note, Jas got his prosthetic leg and is currently getting used to it. It's neat seeing him standing up on his own, and we all look forward to that wedding dance. A simple promise that he would dance with her has become such a huge part of his recovery.
The Mecan'tiKs, Shovelhead and Rotting Thought have gained a mutual respect for eachother as bands that are forces to be reckoned with. We're not out to best eachother, but we put everything we have into what we do, and love every minute of it. I couldn't be luckier to have these two bands as musical support group, and even luckier still that I get to be a part of this music scene, right here, right now. I look forward to establishing a rapport with other bands in the area and being able to give them the respect they deserve.
The band itself functions great. Our respective jobs often throw monkeywrenches into the gears, but we try to work around it as best we can. Each makes his own contribution to the band, and I don't feel like anyone person is picking up too much slack. We don't always see eye to eye, but we work it out in practice and deliver what I feel is some kickass psychobilly music. I'm fucking proud to be a Mecan'tiK.
We played the Hub last night, our first paying gig! It went over big, and we had a blast doing it. From setup to teardown, I was constantly reminded of why I love playing music.
In two weeks I get my wish--we're playing at Town Square! about 6 other bands are playing there, I hope we pack the square. And just in time, Summer is damn near over! We also may get to play with a couple other psychobilly bands--one from Fargo, the other from Minneapolis. My mission to infect the Grand Cities with psychobilly fever is well underway.
